Homeschooling in Florida, kept in order.

Florida gives families a lot of freedom and asks for a few things in return. Home Scholar knows both of its paths, the home education program and the PEP scholarship, and asks you only for what yours needs.

Florida sets no minimum days or hours, so Home Scholar does not make you count them.

The Records screen for a Florida family, with the annual evaluation deadline and its statute.
The home education program

Four things Florida asks for.

A notice of intent

Filed with your county superintendent within 30 days of starting, and a notice of termination when you finish.

Record the date you filed. Its anniversary becomes your evaluation deadline, counted down on the Records tab.

Fla. Stat. § 1002.41

A log, kept as you go

A record of educational activities made at the time they happen, including the titles of reading materials.

Every lesson you tick and every photo you save becomes an entry. Books go on the reading list. Log Friday on Monday and the record keeps both dates.

Fla. Stat. § 1002.41

A portfolio, held for two years

Samples of your child’s work, kept for two years and available to the superintendent with 15 days’ written notice.

Samples file themselves under their subject all year. Build a PDF packet whenever it is asked for.

Fla. Stat. § 1002.41

An annual evaluation

Once a year, by a certified teacher’s portfolio review, a norm-referenced test, the state assessment, a licensed psychologist, or a method you agree with your district. Filed with the county.

Send your evaluator a private link that is password protected, watermarked and expiring. They review the year and sign off, and you keep the signed PDF.

Fla. Stat. § 1002.41
The PEP scholarship

A different set of rules, handled the same way.

Families on the Personalized Education Program answer to their scholarship funding organization rather than the county. The rules change with it: a Student Learning Plan each year, reading, writing, math, science and history, and a norm-referenced test every year, reported to the organization. Records are kept for three years.

Choose the scholarship on your profile and Home Scholar asks for those instead, with their own dates and citations. Test scores go on the Tests tab and chart over the years.

Fla. Stat. § 1002.395
The Evaluation screen, with the next deadline and a place to record the evaluator’s sign-off.

Teach the year. The record follows.

By the time your evaluation comes round, the log, the samples and the reading list are already there.
